For all skill levels
We all want nice abs; to get rid of that belly or those love handles, lose fat, and get that stunning 6-pack and flat stomach. That’s great goal! So to achieve the Hollywood stomach we add a routine of 500 Ab Crunches or Situps to our workouts.
The problem is that your 6-Pack, what are typically called the Abs, is actually a complex group of muscles that include your abdominals (front), obliques (side), lower back, and glutes! So just doing Situps is not only inadequate to work the full group of muscles that make up the Core, but it can cause problems with the neck and lower back. Furthermore, exercises such as Situps and Ab Crunches don’t burn fat per say—meaning, you will not lose fat from your Core if you only do Situps. Situps strengthen and build the abdominal and hip flexor muscles. Fat loss is a process that is motivated, not by a single exercise, but by a holistic exercise program that employs all the body’s muscle groups, at a specific intensity, for a particular length of time. This includes cardiovascular engagement, proper rest, good nutrition, etc. Core work should be an important part of every healthy lifestyle, but not simply to work the abdominals or to try and slim the waistline.
The purpose of the Core Strong class is to revise popular concepts regarding the Core and teach people how to comprehensively and holistically work the entire core, not just to create a 6-pack or lose weight (these are good, attainable goals that are definitely possible with the right Core work), but because the Core is…yep, you guessed it, the Core of our Body and the basis for overall health, strength, balance, and injury prevention.
Improving your Core means:
- Gaining better balance
- Improving posture
- Decreasing back pain
- Helping avoid injury (low back injuries are often caused by muscular weaknesses in the back or abdominal region)
- Improving physical performance (the Core is involved in almost every movement that we do, the stronger the core, the more stability and power you can apply to exercises, movements, and activities)
In the Core Strong class you can expect to get a workout focused primarily on your whole Core. This class is the perfect complement to any fitness program and will provide education and demonstration of a wide variety of exercises for each Core area, while providing constant variety and hands-on assistance with a Personal Trainer.
